Rosa is a set of related movements which incorporate musical elements based on the Fibonacci series. The movement Tango has already been completed, and easily stands alone. Both pitch and intervalic applications of the mathematical sequence produce lines in Tango that are angular, yet somehow natural. This organicism of the melodies is perhaps due to the frequent occurrence of the Fibonacci series throughout nature, including the petal arrangement of some roses. The piece’s metric and harmonic twists, while characteristic of Walls’ whimsical style, also owe much to the music of Michael Sahl, e.g. Exiles' Cafe: Tango.
